Luxury Retail

African luxury doesn't need to borrow its authority from anywhere else. ALUYÂ is a London-based leather brand rooted in traditional African artistry and shaped by modern luxury design. The challenge was to build an identity that honoured this heritage without reducing it to familiar visual stereotypes.

The Challenge
ALUYÂ needed to occupy a distinct space in luxury. Much of the visual language surrounding African luxury leaned towards bold, overtly traditional expressions, while other brands risked losing their cultural character in pursuit of a more conventional luxury aesthetic.
ALUYÂ needed an identity that could hold both heritage and modernity without compromising either.

The Thinking
Luxury is not always about what demands attention. Sometimes, it is about what earns it. We approached ALUYÂ with restraint, intention, and a clear understanding of its audience: design-conscious customers who value craftsmanship, longevity, and pieces worth keeping.
The goal was not to make the brand look African enough, but to express its African roots with the confidence and refinement luxury demands.

The Solution
We developed a visual identity inspired by Benin's craftsmanship legacy, pairing refined lines with warm, earthy tones that echo the natural character of leather. An understated wordmark allowed the materials and craftsmanship to take centre stage, while packaging, product tags, and other brand applications extended the same design language across every physical touchpoint. Brand guidelines brought the system together, giving ALUYÂ a consistent foundation to grow from.

The Outcome
A considered luxury identity that brings African artistry into conversation with contemporary design. From the wordmark to the product stamp, every touchpoint was designed to feel intentional, cohesive, and at home alongside established luxury houses.

What We Learned
Cultural identity doesn't have to announce itself to be recognised. When the thinking is clear and the execution is intentional, heritage becomes more than a visual reference. It becomes the foundation of a brand's authority.
